Can You Create A Free Website With Wix and Use It For Business?

We all love a simple solution, and I'm seeing ads popping up on TV showing us that creating a free website with Wix is easy. you'll find Rhett & Link Youtube superstars, iJustine, and my fav is the one from  James Veitch.

And they're right, at you can customise their templates and you can have yourself a Wix website in no time - but will they make great business websites?

I’ve always said that it’s best to build your website on your own domain - just like I have here at - because that way you are in full control and no one can make the decision to pull it down because you broke small print terms and conditions.

So with that out of the way back to and creating a business... I predict having your own website for business, or pleasure is going to be as normal as having a facebook account within a couple of years.

As James proves anyone can have a website, from the playground Vlogging about Overwatch and CSgo to mom blogging about .. well being a mom!

Everybody's able to claim their own piece of cyberspace and free website builders like are making it easy for us anyone to have a go.

Some sites set up their themes by niche so whether you're a photographer and you wants to share your portfolio or a Hiker that wants to share the trails you've discovered whilst you we're out hiking.

Most commercial website builders like Wix have moved to the drag and drop module system. Allowing you to create your own site through their templates. If you want complete free form editing Wix won't work but this will.

Let's take a peek a wix

I’ve used Wix before but I signed up for an account 2 or 3 yrs ago. So instead of you guys get to watch me go through all the steps I did from picking a theme, adding my images and text, adding hyperlinks to an offer or another website and then publishing a brand new free wix website live on the internet!

... I'll just add a image link to the site. If you know how to setup wordpress you'll have no problems navigating around the user interface.

As you can guess using getting the basic hang of how wix works was fairly easy. Picking a theme you like the look of and “customising it” works quite simple. I’m sure that getting under the hood a little more would introduce us to page setup etc.

There are a stack of pages to choose from too all already set up so you don’t have to play around with things too much.

However I think that most folks that choose a wix free website probably just alter one of their very many templates just like I did.

And therein lies a little extra step if you really want originality. If you create a free website with wix you’ll have to invest and customise the website to your brand.

There is a way to really take your websites design to the next level with Wix Arena. The arena is essentially a pool of Wix experts where you can you pay for a designer to help out or buy a theme with more bells and whistle.

The info about the aena upgrade I received in my inbox 2 days after sign up , so I’m not going to spoil the surprise... if you are interested in wix arena you’ll find out soon enough. Which leads me onto a little gripe....

Wix Upsells and upgrades.

I’ve only had the account reactivated few days and already I’m a bit fed up with the options to upgrade that I am getting. Then I suppose they do have to make their cash somewhere right!

Free Wix Website Pro’s

  • Free!
  • Super easy to use

Not so good bits

Everything taken into consideration I can see why has become so popular. Their websites are quick to create and edit with your own content. This drag and drop system is easy to learn how to use and does give beautiful results every time, and that makes it a popular.

Should businesses create a free website with Wix?

Whilst wix does allow you to build nice looking websites they do have some restrictions that does mean the free wix websites are great for having an online presence. However the , but the free website structure is branded with Wix logo's and you don't have full control.

For a free business website I'd recommend, it uses the wordpress as the framework without any of the restrictions of
